Innovative affordable housing
This scheme is adjacent to the Westway A40 trunk road into West London and the plot remained redundant for nearly 25 years because of the noise and air pollution together with poor location of the site.
A previously non viable project has been made possible and the scheme comprises of 128 mixed tenure homes with supported housing and community facilities, distributed over 5 buildings, each organised around a communal Winter Garden.
The scheme was considered one of the most innovative affordable housing projects in the UK when built.

The elliptical form provides an environmentally efficient shape and the visual impact on the surrounding Conservation Area is minimized.
- A Winter Garden providing a thermal buffer, air quality modifier and ramps.
- Filtered air, removing pollen, external pollutants and noise.
- Winter heating and summer cooling provided entirely from boreholes utilizing the vast seasonal thermal energy storage abilities of the artesian aquifer.
- Domestic hot water provided from warm boreholes and drinking and washing water provided from the aquifer.
This scheme has delivered a new Sustainable community with environmentally sensitive, low energy homes. The repetitive series of 5 structures saw a RC solution with glazed steel framed façade.
