Hornsey Street

Key worker accommodation

The scheme is part of the 'Arsenal on the Move' project to deliver a sustainable community that includes new homes, shops, amenities and commercial premises. Providing 105 homes for Key Workers including teachers, nurses and police, it comprises a block of 2- and 3-bedroom apartments over seven storeys.

'We adopted an innovative "sleeving" of foundation piles'

The site is located by the East Coast mainline that runs up one side of the site and the 24-hr main access road to the local waste transfer station on the other; the Piccadilly tube line passes below the site.

The close proximity of the Underground tunnels meant that no load could be placed on the soil above a certain level. We adopted an innovative method of "sleeving" the foundation piles to ensure that the tunnel did not bear any of the weight of the building.
