Large, complex, sustainable and affordable housing


A major development of 532 affordable housing units comprising 8 blocks of 4-storey flats and 2 & 3 storey terraced housing. As a truly sustainable scheme it also includes community facilities such as a meeting hall, Primary Healthcare Trust surgery, dental surgery, pharmacy and City Gateway.

Located on the site of a former gasworks and adjacent to the Regents Canal section of the Grand Union Canal, it is of timber frame construction over basement car parking and is an excellent example of off-site manufacturing. Our civil & structural designs included significant contamination and remediation work.

The scheme features complex sub-structures to avoid existing gas holder bases as well as the design of concrete basements and transfer slabs over parking areas.

For a scheme of this size, infrastructure development and transport solutions were important components of the design process to ensure maximum social, environmental and financial efficiencies.
